HARTMANNSWILLERKOPF

After the Great War of 1914-1918, the Hartmannswillerkopf National Monument paid homage to the numerous French soldiers who fell on this Vosges battlefield and commemorated the return of Alsace to France after a half-century of separation. Decided on by a committee formed in Mulhouse in 1920, this masterpiece was designed by the architect Robert Danis with the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle and was mainly constructed between 1924 and 1932.
